Christmas .....
We will suspend sending mail orders from Wednesday 4th December, starting again, weather permitting,  from 6th January 2025. Most of our plants will be under cover, dormant and probably not looking at their summer best, so we encourage you to look at our eGift Vouchers as an alternative.

Chlorophytum comosum

Chlorophytum comosum varieties (Spider Plant)

A classic and ever-popular house plant, the spider plant has long green leaves with white margins. A vigorous grower, producing arching green stems with clusters of baby plants at their ends which will form their own roots and can be severed from the parent plant. Given a large hanging pot will make an eye-catching specimen for a house conservatory or office. It doesn’t need full direct sun in fact the leaves can scorch if they get too much. They do particularly well in a bathroom but anywhere in the house except a very hot, sunny windowsill is fine. This is an easy to look after house plant and is ideal for beginners. They will survive a mild winter outdoors.

Pot Sizes

Unless otherwise indicated our plants are supplied in the following pot sizes according to category. Dimensions refer to either the pot diameter (cm) or volume (litre);

  • Exotics/Conservatory & House Plants, Succulents: mostly as young plants in 7 to 9cm (approx. 0.5 litre)  or 1 litre pots
  • Hardy Perennials, Ferns and Grasses: 1 litre (approx. 12cm diameter)
  • Hardy Shrubs and Climbers: 1.5 or 2 litre

The exact size of plants will vary with the growing season and may be cut back in accordance with normal pruning regimes or to fit in the box if they are excessively tall.
