Christmas .....

We will suspend sending mail orders from Wednesday 4th December, starting again, weather permitting,  from 6th January 2025. Orders placed after Wednesday 27th November will be sent after Christmas. Most of our plants are now under cover, dormant and not looking at their summer best, so we encourage you to look at our eGift Vouchers as an alternative.

Convolvulus sabatius - more info

This creeping plant comes from dry places around the Mediterranean, so needs good drainage and a sunny sheltered spot. Blue funnel-shaped flowers appear from mid to late summer over trails of silvery foliage. Can be used for a hanging basket, chimney pot or similar. Can also be used to trail over the edge of a low wall or to the side of a set of steps or a rockery.

We have known these to survive outside here in East Anglia where they are planted in very well drained soil. A dry and sunny spot where the soil is light and free draining all year round is the best place to plant if you plan to try and keep it outside. A gravel mulch will protect from winter wet, but cuttings over wintered frost free are advisable.

Pot Sizes

Unless otherwise indicated our plants are supplied in the following pot sizes according to category. Dimensions refer to either the pot diameter (cm) or volume (litre);

  • Exotics/Conservatory & House Plants, Succulents: mostly as young plants in 7 to 9cm (approx. 0.5 litre)  or 1 litre pots
  • Hardy Perennials, Ferns and Grasses: 1 litre (approx. 12cm diameter)
  • Hardy Shrubs and Climbers: 1.5 or 2 litre

The exact size of plants will vary with the growing season and may be cut back in accordance with normal pruning regimes or to fit in the box if they are excessively tall.
